Oct 27, 2014 7:58 PM

After a very productive season, the Toronto Blue Jays have received calls about Adam Lind.

Lind had the highest batting average among left-handed hitters in the Major Leagues this year.

"I hear the Blue Jays are getting a lot of interest on Lind and not just from American League teams. I've heard three or four clubs," one executive said.

Lind also has a team-friendly contract. He earned $7 million this season and the Blue Jays are expected to pick up his option of $7.5 million for 2015.

Peavy Thought He'd End Up With Cardinals

Oct 18, 2014 2:54 AM

Jake Peavy revealed Sunday that when the Boston Red Sox were fielding calls about his services around the trade deadline, he thought he'd end up with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Instead, Peavy landed with the San Francisco Giants. The Giants and Cardinals are facing off in the NLCS.

"I thought it was really close, to be honest with you," Peavy said. "About a week or so before the actual deal happened, I thought I could possibly come here."

Only the general managers know why the Red Sox accepted San Francisco's offer of pitchers Edwin Escobar and Heath Hembree over the Cardinals' package.

Cueto Hopes To Remain With Reds Over Long-Term

Oct 13, 2014 7:45 PM

The Cincinnati Reds hold a $10 million option on Johnny Cueto for 2015 that is certain to be exercised after the pitcher just completed a four-year, $27 million deal.

Cueto, 28, can become a free agent for the first time after the 2015 season. He hopes to remain with Cincinnati over the long-term.

"Yes. I feel good here," said Cueto through interpreter Tomas Vera. "I like it here. I like the fans. I like the stadium, even though the stadium is small, I like this stadium. I pitch good here. I want to stay here, yes."

The situation isn't an easy one for the Reds. In addition to Cueto, Mato Latos, Mike Leake and Alfredo Simon are a year away from free agency.

Diamondbacks Could Use Shortstop To Acquire Pitching

Oct 13, 2014 2:36 PM

The Arizona Diamondbacks have three players capable to being an everyday shortstop -- Chris Owings, Didi Gregorius and Nick Ahmed -- which they could turn into pitching via trade.

Gregorius and Ahmed are believed to have the most trade value.

"If the Diamondbacks looked to deal Gregorius or Ahmed, they probably wouldn't get back a young, controllable, top-of-the-rotation pitcher. But, rival evaluators say, they could definitely get a useful part for a rotation rebuild," writes Nick Piecoro.

Astros Payroll Could Increase By $20M

Nov 23, 2014 1:00 AM

The Houston Astros could see their payroll increase by $20 million next season, according to owner Jim Crane.

Crane sounded willing to spend more money if the decisions made baseball sense.

“I think somewhere around [$20M]," said Crane. "We're not going to spend it to spend it. We're going to try to spend it effectively and you know if we need to stretch a little, we'll stretch a little. If there's not a good reason to do that, we won't do that. But you know we'll continue to move up."

The Astros began the 2014 season with a $50 million payroll.
